Referenda on the November ballot

At the top of all Illinois ballots is a Proposed Amendment to the 1970 Illinois Constitution
“EXPLANATION OF (WORKER’S RIGHTS) AMENDMENT: The proposed amendment would add a new section to the Bill of Rights Article of the Illinois Constitution that would guarantee workers the fundamental right to organize and to bargain collectively and to negotiate wages, hours, and working conditions, and to promote their economic welfare and safety at work. The new amendment would also prohibit from being passed any new law that interferes with, negates, or diminishes the right of employees to organize and bargain collectively over their wages, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment and workplace safety. At the general election to be held on November 8, 2022, you will be called upon to decide whether the proposed amendment should become part of the Illinois Constitution.”

THE VOTE

For the proposed addition of Section 25 to Article I of the Illinois Constitution.
Ballotpedia explains that a “yes” vote supports establishing a state constitutional right for employees to have the right to vote on organizing and bargaining collectively through representatives of their choosing to negotiate “wages, hours, and working conditions and to protect their economic welfare and safety at work.”
A “no” vote opposes establishing a state constitutional right for employees to organize and bargain collectively through representatives of their choosing to negotiate “wages, hours, and working conditions and to protect their economic welfare and safety at work.”

Public questions

Also on the ballot are Public Questions, including:
“Shall Peoria County eliminate the internal Office of County Auditor when Peoria County already has an external auditor as required by state law? This would be a cost savings of approximately $150,000 annually.”

THE VOTE

A “yes” vote abolishes the office, keeping the state-mandated external auditor (currently the Certified Public Accountant, Tax & Advisory firm Sikich LLP in East Peoria).
A “no” vote keeps both County Auditor and external auditor.
And an Advisory Question of Public Policy:
“Should the State of Illinois adopt an independent citizens commission for the federal and state redistricting process, that would be guided by principles established in fair maps initiatives?”
