Community Word Election Primer 2022

Metro Peoria’s monthly newspaper has compiled a bit of campaign information
for some key races affecting central Illinois.

Most media attention in campaigns for the Nov. 8 election has focused on the tops of party tickets. In Illinois, that means national figures such as U.S. Sen. Tammy Duckworth (tammyduckworth.com), the state’s junior senator and Democrat running against Republican Kathy Salvi (kathysalvi.com).
There’s some coverage of the area’s two Congressional Districts. Incumbent Darin LaHood,
a Republican (lahoodforcongress.com), faces Democratic challenger Elizabeth “Lisa” Haderlein (haderleinforcongress.com) for the 16th District, which the Cook Political Report lists as “solid Republican.” The open 17th District, where incumbent Cheri Bustos did not run for re-election, has Republican Esther Joy King (estherforcongress.com) running again for the seat, opposed
by Democrat Eric Sorensen (ericforillinois.com) in a race that the Cook Political Report, plus
Larry J. Sabato’s “Crystal Ball” and “Inside Elections” with Nathan L. Gonzales all say is a “toss-up.”
