Letter to the editor: Ester Joy King, Eric Sorenson skirt issues

I went to the “debate” between Esther Joy King and Eric Sorenson at Bradley on October 3.
I regret doing that. I could have stayed home and watched mindless drivel on TV without wasting gas to attend a live event of mindless drivel.
Neither candidate could answer one direct question even when the moderator repeated the question because the answers were so vague and seemingly had no relevance to the original question.
One chance for clarity came when the moderator asked about gun violence. It was an opportunity for Sorenson to advocate an assault weapons ban (that worked before) or for King to clearly protect Americans’ right to own machine guns. Neither candidate risked being seen as informed.
In the middle of the debate a woman interrupted and said she was running as a write-in. She said she did not have any money or support from any party or PAC. She was removed.
In the end, King or Sorenson will be a Congressperson. They will be freshmen and have little if any power or influence. They will spend hours every day on a phone raising money for their next campaign.
I wish I could remember the name of the woman who was ejected.
