West Peoria News: Neighborhood Watch holding 22nd National Night Out Against Crime on Aug. 1

APRIL SILVER

National Night Out is an annual community building campaign celebrated by millions of neighbors across thousands of cities held the first Tuesday in August. The goal of the event is to promote community-oriented policing partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie, and to make neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live.

West Peoria Neighborhood Watch will host its 22nd annual National Night Out Against Crime from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 1 at West Peoria City Hall. The event is free and open to the public and will feature hot dogs, snow cones, face painting for children and gate prizes. The Peoria County Sheriff’s Department will exhibit a BearCat armored vehicle and the West Peoria Fire Department will display firefighting equipment.

National Night Out is a great opportunity to come together as a community and meet local law enforcement. “When deputies actively engage with residents, listen to their concerns and work collaboratively to find solutions,” said Peoria County Sheriff’s Deputy Drake Hart, “it builds trust, fosters respect, and strengthens the relationship between the police and the community.”

The West Peoria Neighborhood Watch is a volunteer organization that works to improve the safety of the community. The group meets on the second Wednesday of each month to discuss crime prevention and other neighborhood issues.
