OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria, IL is please to announce that Brian Curtis, MD has earned the Fellow in Hospital Medicine designation from the Society of Hospital Medicine (SHM). Dr. Curtis, Medical Director of the Adult Hospitalist Service at Saint Francis, was among the inaugural class of approximately 500 Fellows inducted in
Chicago at the SHM annual meeting.
He is one of only two hospitalists in Illinois outside of Chicago to be a part of this elite group, with the other downstate physician from Champaign. Dr. Curtis is the founding member and chair of the Central Illinois Society of Hospitalist Medicine.
To be designated a Fellow in Hospital Medicine, an applicant must be a hospitalist for five years, a member of SHM for three years, demonstrate dedication to quality and process improvement, commitment to organizational teamwork and leadership, as well as lifelong learning and education.
Studies over the past decade have shown that hospitalists decrease patient length of stay, reduce hospital costs and readmission rates, while increasing patient satisfaction. Hospital medicine is the fastest growing healthcare specialty with more than 28,000 hospitalists nationwide.

The Aster Awards, hosted by Marketing Healthcare Today and Creative Images, Inc., is an elite national program recognizing outstanding healthcare professionals for excellence in advertising and marketing efforts. With approximately 3,000 entries, Aster Awards participants compete against similarly-sized organizations from across the United States and must score in the top 85% to receive an award. Judging criteria includes creativity, layout and design, functionality, message effectiveness, production quality, and overall appeal.
OSF Saint Francis Medical Center scored in the top 5% of the nation for having clearly exhibited outstanding excellence in healthcare marketing. A diverse panel of healthcare marketing experts judged the entries. In recognition of Nurses Week, OSF Saint Francis Medical Center and Children’s Hospital honored members of their nursing staff. 64 nurses were nominated with six receiving Nursing Excellence awards. The winners each received a commemorative plaque, a $300 educational scholarship, a watch, certificate and a bouquet of flowers and their names added to Nursing Excellence plaques at the medical center.

OSF SAINT FRANCIS MEDICAL CENTER CLERICAL EDUCATOR ELECTED TRI-COUNTY IAAP OFFICER
OSF Saint Francis Medical Center is pleased to announce that Judy Zimmerman, Clerical Educator for Health Information Services, has been elected Vice President of the Tri-County chapter of the International Association of Administrative Professionals (IAAP). Zimmerman, of Peoria, is also president of the OSF Office Professionals at Saint Francis, which laid the ground work for the Tri-County IAAP chapter. IAAP is a not-for-profit professional association with approximately 40,000 members and affiliates and nearly 600 chapters worldwide. IAAP works in partnership with employers to promote professional excellence. The Tri-County Chapter serves members who live or work in Peoria, Tazewell and McLean counties and surrounding areas.
Members are employed as administrative professionals in a wide range of fields including health care, accounting, research, education, manufacturing, transportation, information technologies, food service, communications, financial institutions and more.
In addition to Zimmerman’s appointment, two OSF Office Professional/Tri-County IAAP members are serving on the Illinois Division Board of IAAP. BETTER BREATHERS SUPPORT GROUP TO MEET
The monthly meeting of the Better Breathers Support Group will be held Tuesday,
May 26th at the Proctor Professional Building on North Knoxville Avenue in
Peoria from 2 – 4 PM.
