It will be the doctors from the staff of OSF Saint Francis Medical Center/Children’s Hospital of Illinois versus Peoria firefighters for the 4th annual Challenge Cup Hockey Game. The docs lead the series 2-1.
While the docs and firefighters mix it up on the Owens Center ice, it’s the Children’s Hospital of Illinois that is the big winner. The event has raised over $13,000 since its inception to benefit programs at the hospital.

A new feature this year will be a twist on the 50/50 drawing. Ticket buyers will put their stubs in either the jar for OSF Saint Francis Medical Center CEO Keith Steffen or Fire Chief Kent Tomblin. Between the 2nd and 3rd period the two will shoot pucks – who ever makes the goal first gets the winner of the 50/50 drawn from their bucket.
Organizers of the event are Dr. John Farrell and Dr. James Swischuk and firefighter Joe Troglio.
