Summer Readers to Converge at Celebratory Party Tuesday

Over 1,000 Summer Readers earned a free pass to the Summer Reading party at Peoria Zoo to be held Tuesday, July 27 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.

At the party, in addition to enjoying the zoo, Summer Readers will be entertained by musician Babaloo, enjoy face painting by the Zoo Lady and Her Crew, have a chance to win large prizes, see special animal shows and enjoy free treats. It’s the big reward for having read at least three hours per week for six of the seven weeks of the Summer Reading “Scare Up a Good Book” program.

Almost 2,000 participants who read at least four weeks earned a voucher for a free ticket to a Chief’s Baseball game. Entire families take part in the program and enjoy the baseball game and zoo party together, free of charge.

The Summer Reading Program had about 3, 700 participants who read and reported their time online to librarians at the Peoria Public Library website www.peoriapubliclibrary.org. The Summer Reading program has been a popular way to enjoy reading over the summer for over 60 years and is now for all ages.
