Health Week to be offered August 9-13
Trotter Chiropractic Office is hosting a health week for children during the week of August 9-13, 2010. The event will be held at Trotter Chiropractic Office, located at 5009 North Executive Drive in Peoria, and is geared toward the well-being of school-aged children.
Dr. Dean Trotter, owner of Trotter Chiropractic Office, and Dr. Brad Cotton will offer backpack fittings and educate children on how to properly carry their backpack and school supplies to prevent injury and spinal damage. They will also offer free scoliosis screenings.
Recent studies indicate that over 6000 children are treated in hospital emergency rooms each year for injuries related to shouldering backpacks. 89% of chiropractors polled by www.backpacksafe.com reported that have seen patients ages 5-18 reporting back, neck or shoulder pain caused by heavy backpacks. Along with the possible presence of health-damaging scoliosis, or lateral curvature of the spine, the concern level for the safety and well-being of our children grows. Without early detection, improper backpack usage and scoliosis often result in nervous system damage, reduced organ (ie: heart, lungs, stomach) function, chronic neck and low back pain, deformity, or arthritis of the spine as an adult, which can impede upon living a normal life.
“We encourage parents to bring their children to this event so they can learn more about chiropractic care for children and how we can help their growing children prevent spinal injury and encourage an overall healthier lifestyle,” said Dr. Trotter
Both Dr. Trotter and Dr. Cotton have specialized training in chiropractic care for children. Dr. Trotter is trained in brain neurology and applies his knowledge to help children who suffer from attention deficit disorder, cerebral palsy and autism. Dr. Cotton has specialized training in chiropractic care for children from birth to teenage years, as well as their mothers during pregnancy and after delivery.
“There are many things we can do to prevent spinal injury and ensure a healthy child both during pregnancy and into adulthood.” said Dr. Cotton.
Both Dr. Totter and Dr. Cotton are graduates of Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa. Together, they offer 25 years of experience treating patients of all ages in the Peoria area.
