Concordia Eighth Graders Collect Toys For A Brighter Christmas

PEORIA, IL- Buttons are busting with pride at Concordia Lutheran School, as the eighth grade class takes the initiative to collect Toys for Tots by December 15.

Carlie Kaufmann, homeroom teacher for the class, says “The kids realize they are blessed beyond belief and saw an opportunity to brighten the lives of other Peoria children. We are very proud of their efforts.”

Students and Concordia parents even took their campaign to cyberspace by posting the donation request on the school’s Facebook page and web site.

“Our teachers and parents encourage us to make a difference in the world,” says eighth-grade student Paige Rudin. “Toys for Tots seems like a great way to share the love of Christmas with as many children as possible. Besides, it’s fun to shop for toys.”

The older students have inspired the younger ones to take action. Second grade student James Lefebvre says, “The big kids told us how some children’s parents don’t have money for presents so I want to buy something for them.” 7-year-old Lefebvre purchased an Iron Man toy over the weekend and brought it to school Monday morning.

Students and their families, teachers, alumni and even passers-by are encouraged to donate. Toys can be dropped off between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at Concordia Lutheran School, 2000 W Glen Ave, Peoria, IL.

Concordia Lutheran School is a nationally accredited school with more than 200 students currently enrolled in kindergarten through eighth grade. Registrations are accepted beginning in January.
