Auditions for Peoria Players’ “The Drowsy Chaperone”

Director Mike Reams announces auditions for The Drowsy Chaperone! This Tony Award winner is a musical within a comedy, the story is about “The Man in Chair,” a mousy, agoraphobic Broadway fanatic who listens to a recording of the fictional 1928 musical comedy, The Drowsy Chaperone. He is soon transported into the musical while the characters appear in his dingy apartment, and it is transformed into a glorious Broadway set. As he continuously brings the audience in and out of the fantasy, more and more of his personal life is revealed through his musings about the show. When the record ends, he is left again alone in his apartment, but still with his record of a long-beloved show to turn to whenever he’s blue.

The cast calls for 9 men and 4 women (ranging in age from 20 to 65) in leading roles, along with a small singing and dancing chorus who play assorted characters, ages 18 to 55. Auditions will be held on March 5 and 6 at 1:00 p.m. both days, at University United Methodist Church, 2818 N. University in Peoria. Perusal scripts and cd’s are available in the box office for a 3-day checkout.
