Joplin, Missouri – The Salvation Army, which is conducting mass feeding efforts in tornado-stricken Joplin, Missouri, has established a text-to-donate number specifically to support the organization’s relief efforts in that community.
Cell phone users may text the word JOPLIN to 80888.to make a $10 donation. You may also make a credit card donation by calling 1-800-SAL-ARMY or by going to www.salvationarmyusa.org. Checks may be mailed to The Salvation Army, 3637 Broadway, Kansas City, MO 64111. Please designate the gift “Joplin Tornado.”
At this time, in-kind donations are not being accepted as financial donations better allow disaster responders to immediately meet the specific needs of survivors.
The Salvation Army currently has four mobile feeding kitchens stationed in Joplin, each capable of serving several thousand meals. The Salvation Army Team Emergency Radio Network also arrived in Joplin today to assist survivors in locating loved ones through a ham radio network.
Reading, Kansas – The Salvation Army continues to provide support today to the town of Reading, Kansas, after a tornado damaged much of the community Saturday night.
A team of Salvation Army emergency disaster service workers based out of Emporia arrived in Reading at 1:00 a.m. this morning to assist survivors and first responders. The team will continue to provide support today by offering meals, snacks and drinks from a mobile feeding kitchen and also through emotional and spiritual support.
“We are here to serve in whatever way we can,” said Dee Smith, director of emergency disaster services for The Salvation Army. “And we will not leave until all the needs in Reading are met.”
LaCrosse, Wisconsin – The Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Services (EDS) Teams responded to a tornado that touched down on the south side of LaCrosse late Sunday afternoon damaging more than 200 homes and businesses. The Salvation Army deployed its mobile feeding unit providing meals to recovery and response teams and families affected by yesterday’s tornadoes and storms. Clean up kits and vouchers for emergency lodging and clothing have also been provided by The Salvation Army to those families impacted by the tornado and storms. The mayor of LaCrosse has declared the area a state of emergency.
Minneapolis – The Salvation Army Worship and Service Center is providing assistance with clothing, food and basic necessities beginning today at 9:00 a.m. at 2024 Lyndale AVE N, Minneapolis. Until a family assistance center is set up by the city of Minneapolis, The Salvation Army will offer what help it can from its North Minneapolis service center.
