Illinois American Water’s Peoria District Receives National Award for Excellence in Water Quality

Peoria Water Treatment Plant Honored with Partnership for Safe Water Ten-Year Director Award

Illinois American Water’s Peoria District Water Treatment Plant is proud to announce the receipt of the Directors Award of Recognition from the Partnership for Safe Water for maintaining Phase III certification for ten years. The Partnership is a voluntary initiative developed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and other water organizations to recognize water suppliers that consistently achieve water treatment standards that surpass EPA regulatory requirements. The awards were presented yesterday during the 2011 American Water Works Association Annual Conference in Washington, D.C.

As a member of the Partnership for Safe Water, Illinois American Water demonstrates its commitment to voluntarily providing drinking water of a quality better than is required by federal standards. “Our employees are committed to delivering the best water quality possible to our customers, at an exceptional value at about a penny per gallon,” said Karla Olson Teasley, Illinois American Water President. “We’re pleased to achieve this recognition from the Partnership as a testament to our dedication to operational excellence.”

American Water has had more plants receive Phase III certification than any other water utility in the country. Approximately one-third of all water treatment plants nationwide to receive Phase III certification are American Water plants.
