Associate Judge Kate Gorman is announcing her candidacy for the 10th Judicial Circuit Seat vacated by Judge James Shadid
“Judge Gorman is already a highly respected associate judge who will be an outstanding circuit court judge. Her record shows that she is tough and fair – a common sense jurist. I also admire her advocacy for the mental health court, which saves taxpayer dollars by providing treatment instead of jail for those who qualify,” said State Representative David Leitch (R-Peoria).
Peoria Mayor Jim Ardis agreed with Leitch’s sentiments and added that, “we need strong judges enforcing the rule of law and dispensing justice in a fair manner for our community. Kate Gorman is a no-nonsense judge who is a perfect fit to replace Judge Shadid.”
Kate grew up in Central Illinois and is proud of her work in defending common sense and Central Illinois values in the courts. “She has all the qualities that we deserve in members of the judiciary: she is hard-working, has impeccable scholarly credentials, and decides cases in a fair-minded and even-tempered manner. She is a well-rounded person whose strong family values and down-to-earth approach serve her well as a judge,” said Washington Mayor Gary Manier.
Fellow Republican Peoria County Board Member Carol Trumpe stated she is endorsing Gorman because “her judicial experience and conservative approach set her apart.”
Gorman was appointed as an Associate Judge in November 2007, winning nomination out of a group of 44 applicants. Since taking the bench in November 2007, Judge Gorman has presided over felony and misdemeanor jury and bench trials in criminal court, traffic court, domestic violence court, and over many other civil disputes.
“The Tenth Judicial Circuit has never elected a female Circuit Judge. I strongly believe Kate Gorman will be the first. Her experience as an Associate Judge will serve the Circuit well,” Marshall County Circuit Clerk Gina Noe stated in her support of Gorman’s candidacy.
Kate Gorman is a Washington, IL native. She graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Illinois and with a Law Degree from Southern Illinois University in 1993.
