“Home Improvement” Topic of Local Telecast

When we think of Home Improvement, it usually means knocking down a wall or two, or redoing a kitchen, or adding a patio.

CAPtions, Peoria’s longest-running TV talk show, take the subject in a different direction, meaning how people can improve themselves as homeowners or renters.

The 1st segment includes staff from METEC, a non-profit organization started by Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Executive Director Cheryll Boswell and program Director Fred Stewart explain how they offer housing counseling, homebuyer’s education classes, financial education, and tax preparation services.

The 2nd segment welcomes Brenda Coates, CEO of the Peoria Housing Authority, who updates us on the exciting new developments at the Harrison site, as well as working closer with all residents to help them strive for self-sufficiency. She also talks about issues at Taft, and the future of Taft Homes.

The final segment, entitled “Tech Talk”, has PCCEO’s own Yvaine Washington, computer systems specialist, explaining the constant changes in computer and phone technology…and why people need to embrace it instead of fearing it.
