The Peoria Ballet is pleased to announce its annual production of the winter classic The Nutcracker on December 8th and 9th, 2012 at the Peoria Civic Center. Arguably one of the most popular ballets of all time, the classic adaptation of E.T.A. Hoffmann’s “The Nutcracker and the Mouse King” tells the tale of young girl’s Christmas gift and the imagination and dreams of a child. For over 30 years, the Peoria Ballet has brought this holiday tradition to the Peoria area, inspiring many children to pursue the art of dance.
This year audiences can expect a fresh take on the classic by choreographer and Peoria Ballet Artistic Director Servy Gallardo. “Every year I try to refresh the choreography to showcase each student’s level and ability and to ensure a new performance for the audience and dancers alike.” Patrons can also expect to see new Snow Scene costumes donated and crafted by Peoria Ballet families and students.
Peoria Ballet is also delighted to announce that they will once again be working with the Heartland Festival Orchestra, River City Gymnastics, and Peoria Area Civic Chorale Youth Chorus. “It will be great to have all of the art organizations in our community working together for this family holiday tradition. I’ve always firmly believed in having unity within my community and am looking forward to this Nutcracker season.” Corrine Callaway, daughter of Dr. Kathryn Occhipinti, is portraying Dream Clara and Caitlin Aquila, daughter of Elizabeth Rust is Young Clara in this year’s performance.
