December 6, 2013 – Morton, IL – By early spring of 2013, the Village of Morton will be home to a new Kroger fuel center, currently under construction next to the Kroger food store in the Morton Plaza. “At Kroger we try to find ways to provide overall and ongoing value along with convenience to our shoppers,” said John Elliott, Public Affairs Manager for Kroger Central Division. “We believe adding this fuel center to our Morton Kroger food store will provide both to our customers.”
The new Kroger fuel center will be competitively priced in the regional market and will also offer a special discount to Kroger customers. Their current plan offers up to a $2 discount per gallon of gas at their fuel centers to customers who accumulate points by spending on groceries, prescriptions, or gift cards. “The addition of a fuel center typically increases our local grocery sales by two and a half to as much as four percent by attracting new customers to our stores and deepening the loyalty of our current customer base,” said Elliott. “That increase will not only strengthen our local store, but will also provide more tax revenue for the community.”
The new Kroger fuel center will cost an estimated $1.3 million in capital expenditures and is estimated to create 4-6 new jobs in Morton. They will offer regular and diesel fuel, some outdoor convenience items, and 24 hour access for credit card users. “The new Kroger Fuel Center will be a welcome addition to our current mix of gas stations in Morton,” said Jennifer Daly, CEO for the Morton EDC. “We are always happy to see one of our local businesses add products and services that strengthen their overall operations and add value to our citizens.”
