“Where books & wine meet”

HAPPY 2013! MAY THE NEW YEAR BRING YOU JOY and remind us all to count our blessings. In the words of national best-selling author, Anne Lamott, the three essential prayers everyone needs to say are: Help, Thanks, and Wow. Asking for help, appreciating goodness, and feeling awe for the world get us through the tough times and keep us moving forward.

Local Author Series:
We start off our 2013 Local Author Series will a “magical” book signing on Saturday, January 26 from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. Author, motivational speaker and magician, Mitch Williams, will sign copies of his book, A Call to Magic. In the world of self help and personal transformation books, authors routinely use the term “magic” as a theme for self discovery. Williams gives a fresh perspective on bringing real magic into your life—from a real magician!

Looking forward, mark your calendars for Saturday, February 2 when local author Gary Lisman signs his book, Bittersweet Memories-A History of the Peoria State Hospital. First considered a “state of the art” institution in 1902, this fascinating chronicle of the Peoria State Hospital is a must read for history buffs.

Store Events:
Don’t forget to sign up for World Book Night! Be a part of the growing world movement to bring the love of books to others. It’s fun and free. All you need to do is go to the website: www.worldbooknight.org and sign up to be a book giver. You’re able to select a book from thirty carefully chosen titles. You choose where you would like to distribute the books. You pick I Know You Like A Book as the site to pick up the books. You join us for a pizza party and meet all the other people participating in this great event. Once you’re confirmed as a book giver, please drop us an e-mail so that we have an idea of how many have signed up for our party.

New Book Club forming! We’ve had several inquires from people wanting to join a book club. All of our regular book clubs are full, so it’s time to start a new one. If you’d like to join, please drop an e-mail, stop by the store, or call with your name, phone number and e-mail address. The first meeting will be on Tuesday, February 12th at 6:00 p.m. The first book will be The Language of Flowers by Vanessa Diffenbaugh, chosen because the club will meet two days before Valentine’s Day, thus flowers and Valentine’s Day seemed like a natural fit. Even if you aren’t able to read the book, come to the meeting if you would like to join this new book club. Book club members receive 10% off their book club selection. You are free to bring food. We ask that you do not bring beverages, as we have wine, beer, soft drinks, and bottled water for sale.
