Mr. Rust drew upon his own experiences with the country’s largest auto and home insurer as he shared why business leaders must engage – and stay involved – in the development of economic and public policy, particularly in today’s uncertain regulatory environment. Just explained how business leaders can effectively be part of the public policy debate, particularly on issues related to workforce readiness.

Rust shared insight from his three decades of experience with leaders on the federal, state and local level promoting improved educational outcomes for all students. He shared his thoughts on why and how our education system is the key to a strong and growing economy and a vibrant 21st century workforce.

Nearly 350 people attended the breakfast event sponsored by CGN Global and Methodist at Four Points by Sheraton in downtown Peoria. Chamber President Roberta Parks said this series is part of the Chamber’s effort to better inform members of what’s happening with policies and issues that affect business. “The issues that Mr. Rust addressed today affect our members and their business. It is important that they are actively engaged in these key policy issues so they can make the right decisions for their businesses and our future.”

Rust is the Chairman of the U.S. Chamber which is a strong advocacy organization and very involved in public policy. Parks hopes those in attendance today gained “Awareness, information and perhaps some ideas of things they can do or policies they can support.” The Chamber plans to make the Public Affairs Series an annual event with a variety of speakers from local, regional and national levels.
