Mental Health Forum to be Held on March 2nd about “Mental Health Forum on Critical Issues in Mental Health”

Mental Health America of Illinois Valley (MHAIV) will be sponsoring a mental health forum on Saturday, March 2 which is open to the public. Entitled “Mental Health Forum on Critical Issues in Mental Health,” the day will include a distinguished keynote speaker, break-out sessions, a drama therapy presentation and the screening and discussion of a documentary film.

Rene Sandoval, Director of the Multi County Narcotics Enforcement Group, will deliver the keynote address on “Drug Trends and Threats in Our Community.” Breakout sessions will cover other topics including bullying, suicide prevention, post-traumatic stress disorder and social media and parenting.

The afternoon will highlight a screening and discussion of “Poster Girl,” a 2010 documentary film about an American soldier’s experience transitioning from deployment in Iraq to a veteran with post-traumatic stress disorder. The film was nominated for an Academy Award in 2011. The day concludes with drama therapy presentations which are one act plays inspired by local true life stories of those dealing with mental illness in our community.

Cost for the full day is $99.00 which includes the forum, lunch and Continuing Education Units.
