Peoria Riverfront Museum to host Engineering Day

Museum promotes Engineering Day with free general admission for all.

PEORIA, IL — Peoria Riverfront Museum is hosting “Engineering Day” on Sunday, Feb. 17, 2013 from 1-4 p.m. Families can spend the day at the museum learning about the engineering field through hands-on activities, exhibits, demonstrations and videos.

Engineering Day activities are free thanks to local engineering sponsorship. All museum galleries and planetarium will be free of charge from noon- 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 17. The Giant Screen Theater admission does not apply to the free admission waiver for this event.

“Our first Engineering Day downtown at the Riverfront promises to be our biggest ever, with over a dozen groups offering interactive activities for the whole family, and in addition, the engineering organizations are sponsoring all public admissions to the museum and planetarium as well,” said Sheldon Schafer, director of education.

Engineering Day activities will be set up throughout both levels of the museum, ranging from interactive aerodynamic displays to robots. Engineering Day has been an ongoing event for nearly 20 years with Lakeview Museum.

Free admission to the museum for this event is made possible by engineering profession sponsors including: Society of Automotive Engineers, Peoria Chapter of ASM International/ Central Illinois Chapter of AFS, American Society of Civil Engineers, Maurer-Stutz, Inc., Christopher B. Burke Engineering, Farnsworth Group, Hanson Professional Services, Hermann & Associates, Mohr & Kerr Engineering & Land Surveying, Terra Engineering, Midwest Engineering Associates, Millennia Professional Services and Midwest Engineering Professionals.
