The Original Skazz band started in June of 2011 as a summer program for high school and college students to stay in shape over the summer. The Skazz Band was formed by bandleader, Casey Doremus, while attending Illinois Central College. The group started rehearsing in a garage on Sunday evenings and continues to practice weekly. The group has brought in some great young musicians from around the area, from Lacon to Pekin and towns in between.
The group has performed 32 concerts and played over 80 charts, all arranged by Casey Doremus. The group performs a number of jazz classics from Frank Sinatra, Glenn Miller, and Count Basie, while also incorporating their own generation’s music, such as Yellowcard, The Starting Line, and Hoobastank. The group features the voice of Victor Griffith, who is a recent graduate of Washington Community High School, and will be attending Illinois Central College in the fall. The Original Skazz Band has played for several charity events and many fundraisers for the American Cancer Society. They have also had the honor of performing next to ICC’s Vocal Jazz Blue and Illinois Central Jazz Train. The Skazz Band would also like to thank the Central Illinois Jazz Society for letting us perform for everyone and to thank the people who are involved with this organization. Without the guidance and help of these teachers and performers, we would never have been able to be here.
The Central Illinois Jazz Society (CIJS) House Band will play during the first set, under the leadership of Larry Harms. The CIJS House Band features outstanding jazz musicians from the area. They will entertain you with a mixture of jazz styles. For more information call 692-5330 or visit www.peoriajazz.com. For more information about our location, visit www.landmarkrec.com.
