Peoria, Illinois…In honor of International Literacy Day, Common Place Family Learning Center will host its 27th Annual Walk for Literacy on Saturday, September 14, 2013 at 514 S. Shelley Street, Peoria.
Walkers can choose either a 5K or one mile route and participate in fun activities along the way including, a Walk and Learn Contest and opportunities to meet Abraham Lincoln and visit the Bookmobile. Walkers are also encouraged to dress up like their favorite book character and solicit pledges. Festivities following the walk will include: many prizes for individuals and teams, a fun community celebration, and great refreshments!
Registration begins at 8:00 a.m and the walk starts at 8:30 a.m. For those registered by September 6, individual registration is $25 per person and family/team registration is $25 for the first person and $10 for each additional person. The goal is to raise $30,000 to support Common Place’s literacy and tutoring programs for children and adults.
Common Place Family Learning Center is a social service organization focusing on literacy, and is located on Peoria’s South Side. Common Place provides after school tutoring and enrichment activities for children grades K – 12, summer tutoring for grades K – 12, summer youth programs for children ages 8 – 15 years, adult one-on-one tutoring and small reading and math group classes, and GED study.
