PEORIA PARK DISTRICT TO BEGIN PROGRAMMING LAKEVIEW RECREATION CENTER

The Peoria Park District has announced that it has begun offering limited programming in the gymnasium at the new Lakeview Recreation Center, formally the YWCA building in Lakeview Park. The 50 Rock program is holding Pickleball at the Center on Mondays, Fridays and Saturdays from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., and Wednesdays from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Cost is $2.50 drop-in or $20.00 for a 10-visit pass.

A formal ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held in January 2014. Starting then, Lakeview Recreation Center will host youth and adult basketball leagues; wiffleball leagues; indoor soccer programs; high school dodgeball and other sports programs such as a lacrosse skills clinic. Spring break and summer camps will also be held at Lakeview Recreation Center. There will be open gyms in the evenings for adult basketball and volleyball and the gym will be available for birthday parties and other rentals.

Heartland Bank and Trust Company gave the former YWCA building to the Peoria Park District earlier this year. The District is delighted to be able to offer recreational opportunities to the community at this centrally located facility. The Lakeview Center space will complement the classrooms that will be available in the Bonnie W. Noble Center for Park District Administration. These facilities, along with Lakeview Family Aquatic Center, Owens Center and the Peoria Players building, will combine to make Lakeview Park a full-service leisure park.
