Dramatic Crossroads Brings Bach’s Humorous ‘Coffee Cantata ‘ Opera to East Peoria on February 9, 2014

February 4, 2014 – Peoria, IL – Dramatic Crossroads Opera Company, a local, nonprofit organization, is pleased to present Bach’s Coffee Cantata on February 9, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at East Peoria High School’s auditorium. Tickets will be sold at the door and are $15, or $12 for students/seniors/children under 12. The performance is sponsored by Thirty-Thirty Coffee.

This performance features talented professional and semi-professional local musicians. They will be performing a modernized version of the cantata in English, staged as though it were a small opera. This production is Dramatic Crossroads Opera Company’s flagship show as its own not-for-profit organization, and should be a fun experience for all ages.

About the Cantata: “Be still, stop chattering” is just one of the entertaining lines from the BWV 211, also known as the Coffee Cantata, a secular cantata by Johann Sebastian Bach. He composed it probably between 1732 and 1735. Although classified as a cantata, it is essentially a miniature comic opera. In a satirical commentary, the cantata amusingly tells of an addiction to coffee.
