March 20th Meeting of League of Women Voters to Host Presentation on the Peoria Children’s Museum

The League of Women Voters of Greater Peoria will hear Emily Cahill, Assistant to the Director of the Peoria Park District, who will present information on the Peoria Children’s Museum (now called Peoria Playhouse) to be located in the Glen Oak Park.

This LWVGP meeting is free and open to the public. Meeting will be held in the Community Room at Schnucks Market on March 20th at noon. Food and drink can be purchased before the meeting at the Schnuck’s deli just outside the meeting room.

The Peoria PlayHouse will pique the curiosity of children, ages birth to eight, and challenge them to learn and grow. Junior League of Peoria research has shown that no facility in our area currently offers this type of educational experience for this age group.

Economic benefits being offered to our region include a full-day destination stop for school groups and families. Children’s museums now represent the fastest growing segment of the museum field. Research also shows that a strong children’s museum is a contributing factor in a community’s ability to attract and retain young professionals and their families. It will support tourism to our area.

This project will retain the Victorian design currently featured in the Glen Oak Park Pavilion, while renovating the interior so that the building is restored to its original purpose of a family gathering space.

Junior League started this effort. This project is now part of the Peoria Park District and partnered with the Zoo. Questions will be taken from the audience.
