UICOMP will host the Southside Mission Day Camp for a Science Treasure Hunt – July 29th

Tuesday, July 29, 2014 at UICOMP, the Southside Mission Day Camp will visit between 1:00-3:00PM on a science treasure hunt hosted by the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria – Library of the Health Sciences at Peoria (LHS-P).  At 2:00 PM the students will meet the author (Dr. Richard G. Macdonald) of the children’s book THE WHOOPING COUGH GERM THAT BECAME A HERO. This book is based on a medical article authored by Peorians Hugh Macdonald MD and Edith J. Macdonald RN. The article was published in 1933 by the Macdonalds in the “Journal of Infectious Diseases.” The book will be read to the students by retired Pekin teacher, Barbara O’Brien. Following the session on THE WHOOPING COUGH GERM THAT  BECAME A HERO, the students will make a polio vaccine on the NOVA website.
