Peoria County Participating in Hiring Our Heroes

Peoria – On Friday, August 8, the Peoria County Recorder of Deeds Office and Veteran’s Assistance Commission will participate in the 2014 Hiring Our Heroes employment event for veterans. The event will be at the Peoria Civic Center from 9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., and is preceded by an employment workshop at 8:30 a.m.

Nancy Horton, Peoria County’s Recorder of Deeds, encourages veterans to record their military separation papers: “By recording their DD-214, veterans are assured this valuable document is kept in a safe place and that free certified copies will be readily available when needed.” At Friday’s event, staff from the Recorder’s Office will be on hand to look up separation documents for veterans. If a veteran already has documents on file, they will be given a wallet card to help them remember where their documents are located. The card can then be presented at the Recorder’s Office in the Peoria County Courthouse to obtain certified copies of their DD-214. If a veteran’s DD-214 is not on file, the veteran will be encouraged to take his or her discharge papers to a county Recorder’s Office to file for safe keeping.
