Common Place to Celebrate Literacy with Walk and month long activities

Peoria, Illinois…In honor of International Literacy Day, Common Place Family Learning Center will host its 28th Annual Walk for Literacy on Saturday, September 27, 2014, at Common Place, 514 S. Shelley Street., and a month long celebration of literacy.

Walk registration begins at 8:00 a.m. and the walk starts at 8:30 a.m. Cost for individual is $25.00 per person; $40.00 for family of three or more; youth groups up to nine participants $35.00, and $50 for group of 10 or more; and, $20.00 for teams, plus $10.00 per team member.  Online registration is available at: www.commonplacepeoria.org/events.

The month long celebration of literacy includes a story writing contest for children grades K – 12, with recognitions being held at the Walk for Literacy.

Festivities following the walk include: a Walk and Learn, including a visit from Professor Dumbledore, the Bookmobile, and local firemen and police; a continental breakfast; and many prizes for individuals, families, groups and teams.

Common Place Family Learning Center is a social service organization focusing on literacy, and is located on Peoria’s South Side.  Common Place offers after-school tutoring and enrichment activities for children grades K – 12, summer tutoring for grades K – 12, summer youth programs for children ages 8 – 15 years, adult one-on-one tutoring and small reading and math group classes, and GED study.
