Friends of Rocky Glen (FORG) is pleased to announce a $20,000 donation to the Peoria Park District to help fund the construction of a parking lot. The parking lot will enable public access to Rocky Glen, Peoria’s newest public park.
FORG wishes to thank the numerous supporters who have made donations, become members and hiked Rocky Glen since 2011. Most especially the Board thanks Bill Rutherford Jr. and Jim Tomlin of Forest Park Foundation, Jimmy Spears of Jimmy’s Bar on Farmington Road, and Daryl Klusendorf of Sky Harbor for their early support of Friends of Rocky Glen and our mission to make Rocky Glen open to all. FORG also works with the Caterpillar Foundation to accept donations and matching funds from Caterpillar employees and retirees. We are proud of these partnerships which have accelerated fundraising efforts for a parking lot, trails and signage that will someday make Rocky Glen completely accessible to the public.
Rocky Glen is a 125 acre natural area in West Peoria, located adjacent to Kickapoo Creek Road. It is owned by the Peoria Park District. Since 2011, the Friends of Rocky Glen and the Peoria Park District have had an operating agreement to allow FORG to lead guided hikes. Construction of the parking lot by the end of 2016 will be a huge step forward in public access, to be followed by trail development and signage.
