Bob Hope spoofs crime, film noir in comedy

Star of stage, screen, radio and TV Bob Hope spoofed detective pictures in “My Favorite Brunette,” showing on Saturday, July 28 at downtown Peoria’s nonprofit Apollo Theater.

Co-starring Dorothy Lamour, Peter Lorre and Lon Chaney Jr., the 1947 comedy revolves around a baby photographer recounting his misadventures to reporters from prison. His tale – of murder, spies, a femme fatale and other hijinx – touches on most clichés of 1940s crime movies.

The 85-minute romp also features Reginald Denny and cameos by Alan Ladd and Hope buddy Bing Crosby.

Show times at the Apollo are at 7:00 p.m. Donations are $5 and $4 for kids, students and seniors. For details call (309) 673-4343.
