From Tuesday, October 2, until Saturday, October 27: Of Heaven and Earth: The Photography of Kay Herbst Helms will be on exhibit at Peoria Public Library Main Library Gallery. The Gallery is open Monday through Saturday, 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The culmination of two exhibits, this show features the connection that hands have to our world. Pieces from “What Sustains Us” depict the hands of farmers and their relationship to the land of south central Minnesota. Combined with this display are pieces from “Blessed Are the Hands that Serve”, photographs of the hands of the School Sisters of Notre Dame Mankato Province. According to the artist, “The hands of these women reflect their diversity, but their mission has remained the same-that of serving others by their prayers and their presence.” A former resident of Central Illinois, Ms. Helms is interested in sharing the connection of hands and community in her series of black and white photographs. The public is invited to an opening reception Saturday, October 6 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. and a Gallery Walk and Talk at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 10.
