The Golden Historical Society will present their annual Oktoberfest on October 20, 2012. This year in addition to the traditional dinner, activities, demonstrations and displays will be held through out the day and entertainment will follow the evening meal.
The event will begin at 10 AM with demonstrations and displays on the grounds and in the mill buildings, children’s activities under the museum canopy, and mill and museum tours. Children’s activities will end at 1 PM with a Spelling Bee on the stage in the windmill hall. Displays and demonstrations of blacksmithing, bucket making, sewing, cooking and other life skill demonstrations will be on-going throughout the day. A quilt exhibit will be on display in the Windmill Hall from 10 AM to 4 PM. Participation by local volunteers, demonstrator/venders, and the Olde Tyme Association insures some quality activities for the whole family.
Food items will be available through out the day: Coffee and pastries in the morning, lunch items from 11 AM until 1 PM, and dinner will be served from 5 to 7 PM. Dinner this year will be bratwurst or roast beef, mashed potatoes and gravy, sauerkraut, green beans, salad, dessert and drink for $10 for adults, $5 for children ages 5 to 10, and children under 5 free.
From 1 PM to 3 PM cemetery tour presentations at the Trinity Cemetery will highlight amusing stories of local families told by their descendents in period costume. Stories of the Emminga and Buss families will be featured.
Demonstrations and displays, mill and museum tours will end at 4 PM. At that time (4 PM), Opa and Oma (Grand father and mother) and Mr. and Mrs. Emminga (portrayed by local volunteers) will take the stage in the Windmill Hall to present stories of life in the early years of Golden.
Entertainment and music will follow dinner
