Glasser to chair NCAA committee; appointed to Division I advisory group

Bradley University President Joanne Glasser has been appointed chairperson of the NCAA Division I Committee on Athletics Certification, succeeding Nathan Hatch, president of Wake Forest University.

President Glasser is in her second term on the Committee, which works with Division I institutions to review governance and commitment to rule compliance, academic integrity, fiscal integrity, and equity, welfare and sportsmanship.

“My work on the Athletics Certification Committee is so gratifying as I witness first-hand the commitment of institutions around the country to integrity in intercollegiate athletics,” Glasser said. “The peer review process we facilitate helps institutions continually improve to provide a meaningful experience for student athletes.”

The operating principles for Division I athletics programs were adopted overwhelmingly at the 1993 NCAA Convention.

Glasser also was appointed recently to a four-year term on the Division I Presidential Advisory Group (PAG) representing the Missouri Valley Conference.

The PAG is comprised of presidents representing each of the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) and Division I conferences. The group meets several times a year to enhance communication regarding governance issues within the FCS/Division I subdivisions and offer the subdivisions’ perspectives to the seven current subdivisional representatives who serve on the Board.

Also appointed to serve on the PAG are: Robert Caret, president, Towson University; Drew Gilpin Faust, president, Harvard University; Penelope Kyle, president, Radford University; and Kenneth Peacock, chancellor, Appalachian State University.
