The Peoria Zoo’s adult female tiger, Kyra, died Sunday evening after a short illness that did not respond to treatment. A necropsy was performed and test results are pending.

Kyra came to Peoria in 2006 and gave birth to four cubs in June 2012 and although she was a first-time mom, she proved to be an excellent parent.

Zoo Director, Yvonne Strode, said “The staff is heartbroken and we know that many members of the public will be also.”
