Designation of the Honorary Secretary Ray LaHood Roadway

(Peoria, IL)­­—In honor of former Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood, the City of Peoria will be naming the intersection of Main Street and Monroe Street the Honorary Secretary Ray LaHood Roadway.

The Former Secretary has a tremendous record of 35 years of public service. As Secretary of Transportation from 2009 to 2013, Ray LaHood led an agency with more than 55,000 employees and a $70 billion budget that oversees air, maritime and surface transportation missions. He led efforts to decrease distracted driving and strengthen consumer protections for air travelers. He oversaw the Department of Transportation’s distribution of economic stimulus funds from the Recovery Act. From 1995 to 2009, he represented the 18th Congressional District of Illinois, sitting on the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and Appropriations Committee. Before that time, he was chief of staff to Republican Leader Robert Michel, whom he succeeded in representing the 18th District, and as District administrative assistant to Congressman Thomas Railsback. He also served in the Illinois State Legislature.
