Washington, DC – Congressman Aaron Schock (IL-18) applauds Caterpillar on receiving the Defense Logistics Agency’s (DLA) Hurricane Sandy Award today. As a Department of Defense (DoD) combat support agency, DLA provides the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, other federal agencies, and joint allied forces with a variety of logistics, acquisitions, and technical services. This award program recognizes businesses and individuals who have made outstanding efforts in partnering with DLA to provide America’s war fighter supplies and services to include fuel, food, clothing, spare parts, and medical supplies.
Caterpillar has been awarded this honor for providing “unprecedented support during the Hurricane Sandy relief efforts by ensuring generators and accessories were always available in a timely manner that exceeded expectations.”
“Our country is always at its best when its citizens come together during difficult times, and Caterpillar has proven this again with their help during the Hurricane Sandy relief efforts,” said Schock. “Team Caterpillar has always shown a big heart for those who are in a time of need. Those of us in Central Illinois are well aware of all the goodwill their foundation and team of employees do across the nation.”
“We worked closely with our dealers and suppliers who provided tireless support to mobilize equipment to where it was most needed,” said Caterpillar Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Doug Oberhelman. “They responded directly to customer demand or sent equipment, personnel and other resources in support of the recovery effort. In addition, two organizations supported by the Caterpillar Foundation – First Response Team of America and the American Red Cross – helped clear debris and provided immediate support to equipment and volunteers in the storm’s aftermath. We are proud to have played a role in the recovery efforts of Hurricane Sandy.”
The award was presented today at the annual Business Alliance Award ceremony at the headquarters of the Defense Logistics Agency in Fort Belvoir, Virginia.
In 2012, Caterpillar was named a 2012 Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award recipient. That year, Caterpillar was one of only fifteen employers nationwide to be honed with the Freedom Award, the DoD’s highest recognition given to employers for exceptional support of Guard and Reserve employees.
