PEORIA, IL – U.S. Rep. Aaron Schock is kicking off his 2014 re-election bid with former Bears Linebacker Brian Urlacher. The public is invited to Schocktoberfest from 5 to 7 p.m. on Nov. 15 at Brewers Distributing in Peoria where Urlacher will be the featured guest. After winning NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2000, Urlacher was elected to eight Pro Bowls and won the NFL Defensive Player of the Year. A sideline-to-sideline defensive star, he spent his entire 13-year career with the Bears and is a Fox Sports analyst. In 2012, Urlacher was awarded the Ed Block Courage Award. Throughout his career, Urlacher maintained one of the largest fan bases in America. Upon his retirement in June of this year, the #54 Urlacher jersey was in the Top Ten NFL jersey sales.
“Brian is someone Illinoisans greatly respect on and off the football field. While playing for the Bears, Brian was known for his unmatched work ethic and commitment to the team he played for every Sunday. I carry with me that same mindset as I work hard to represent the people of the 18th District,” Schock said.
Said Urlacher, “My family understands the important role of public service. My brother Casey Urlacher was elected mayor of Lake County’s Mettawa, IL earlier this year. In Peoria, he was fullback-linebacker for the Peoria Pirates. So we’re both looking forward to visiting our friends in central Illinois,” Urlacher said.
Schocktoberfest also will feature live entertainment from American Idol 2012 Finalist musician Jared Keim from Hannibal, Missouri.
Schock is seeking a fourth term to Congress in 2014. Schock, 32, was sworn into Congress in 2009 after serving two terms in the Illinois House of Representatives, he is in his third term and sits on the powerful Ways and Means tax-writing Committee.
