The Salvation Army is busy with its next phase of disaster recovery work, with more long-term case management services taking place. Now, Sears and Kmart are joining the cause. The Salvation Army has purchased $50,000 of gift cards for use in the long-term work. “Through the Kmart Kares program, an additional $5,000 in gift cards will bring the total to $55,000 for use with recovery,” said Captain Katherine Clausell, Social Services Director for The Salvation Army. “Thanks to the Kmart Kares program, we will be able to make the His First/MH Equipment gift even more impactful as people continue to recover.” The Kmart Kares program helps stretch local nonprofits and charities’ funds to help serve more, as the The Kmart Kares Gift Card gives an additional 10% value.
The cards can be used at both Kmart and Sears and if used at Sears, shoppers can get an additional 15% on purchases through the end of February. “We are happy to be able to help The Salvation Army as it works with those affected by the tornadoes,” said Ryan Whalen, manager at the Peoria Sears. “Working with our friends at the Peoria Kmart, we can help those storm victims get back on their feet.”
“Kmart Kares allows organizations and local Kmart stores to partner together to help people in their community with supplies for day-to-day operations, rebuilding after a natural disaster or during a critical event or emergency,” said Kmart manager Chris Neis. “The Salvation Army disaster relief is a natural fit.”
