REDEDICATION CEREMONY OF VETERANS MEMORIAL PARK IN HONOR OF GENERAL SHALIKASHVILI THIS SATURDAY

 The Peoria Park District is holding a re-dedication ceremony of Veterans Memorial Park in honor of General John M.D. Shalikashvili on Saturday, May 17 at 11:00 a.m. Veterans Memorial Park is located at the corner of Monroe St. and Hamilton Blvd.

General Shalikashvili was a United States Army General who served as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and Supreme Allied Commander from 1993-1997. He passed away in July 2011.

Speakers include U.S. Representative Cheri Bustos, Peoria Park District Board of Trustees President Timothy J. Cassidy, Peoria Park District Executive Director Bonnie W. Noble, Central Illinois Landmarks Foundation President William Ordaz, and Luthy/Connor family representative Sara Connor James.

 The American Legion Peoria Post #2 will present a rifle salute. A reception will follow at the GAR Hall, home to the Central Illinois Landmarks Foundation.
