Peoria, IL—August 18, 2014. The Peoria Park District is excited to announce that a new event will be introduced to the RiverFront.  In conjunction with the Illinois Valley Yacht Club, the Park District presents the Columbus Cup, a series of sailboat races, which will take place on the Illinois River along the Peoria RiverFront.

The first of this three-part series will begin on Sunday, August 24, with races starting at noon.  Residents of the greater Peoria area are invited to come to the RiverFront for the Erin Feis Irish Cultural Festival, also taking place this weekend, and to enjoy the sailboat races, organized by the IVY Club and its members.

The second race of the series is scheduled for Sunday, September 21 at noon. Peoria Oktoberfest will also be taking place that day. The third and final day of races will be Sunday, October 12 and will serve as the championship for the two previous days of sailboat races. This culmination of the Columbus Cup will also feature local entertainment and activities for spectators viewing the races from the RiverFront.
