Rotary Hosts Garfield Students to Celebrate Reading Accomplishments

The Rotary Club of Peoria will host 22 second grade students from Garfield School who have completed a reading program during the school year to celebrate their accomplishments and share the experience of Rotary. The second graders will be picked up by a Peoria Charter Coach for their field trip to the Pere Marquette and a tour of the hotel will follow the Rotary Meeting.

Who: Twenty-two second grade students from Garfield School with their Teacher Peggy Heltzel and Principal Kevin Curtin will be hosted by their Rotary tutors.

What: Celebration of student completion of program and outstanding reading improvements as part of the overall efforts at Garfield to be a Full Service Community School.

Why:
Along with reading skill improvements, Rotary is working with the school to expose children to life experiences and possibilities.

When: 11:25 a.m. —Bus with children arrives at Pere Marquette and children join their hosts going through buffet line.
12 noon—students will join Rotarians in a song.
12:30—Teams of children and tutors will be recognized and each child will be presented with a book.
