Missing Person – Marvin E. McShan – 14-17238

The Peoria Police Department is currently investigating a missing person case.  Marvin E. McShan was last seen in the area of Shelley and Millman at approximately 00:30 on 08/23/14.  Family members of Mr. McShan report that it is highly unusual for him to be gone without making contact.  He has also left behind his medication and has not reported for work.

Marvin E McShan is 63 years old and last had a neatly trimmed beard and mustache.  Mr. McShan was last seen wearing black and white pajamas.  He was last seen in a Grey PT Crusier Handicapped License plate AWM92.  He is 5’08 and 240 pounds.

Old-time Barn Dance at Shore Acres

Everyone is invited to an old-fashioned barn dance, Saturday, September 6 at the Shore Acres Clubhouse in Chillicothe. The fun starts at 7 p.m. First time dancers and families are welcome. No partner needed. The ever-popular Geisel Power Family Band will provide the music. Jim Hicks and Gail Hintze will teach all the dances.

Admission is $5, with a $20 maximum for families. You are invited to bring a snack to share.

It Can Happen To You

Peoria – Peoria County emergency management experts will present “It Can Happen To You,” a free public workshop from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 18, at ICC’s North Campus. This workshop is a National Emergency Preparedness Month event offered through ICC’s Adult Community Programs and is intended for anyone who wants to become better prepared before disaster strikes.

Emergency management personnel will discuss preparedness steps, explain how to identify points of contact and create an emergency plan, and describe how to build an emergency supply kit for your home and auto. While the workshop is free, registration is recommended due to limited seating: visit www.icc.edu/acp (select “Know Your Community” from the catalog) or call 690-6900 to register.

The same registration information may also be used to register for Peoria County’s “Protect Yourself” workshop on October 16, and “Sustainability for the Entire Community” on November 20. During the “Protect Yourself” workshop, Peoria County Sheriff’s personnel will describe and demonstrate self defense techniques that may help save your life. On November 20, participants will learn about Peoria County’s efforts to conserve resources and how you can take some simple sustainable steps at home to also help preserve the environment.

The Shoppes at Grand Prairie welcomes new stores: SPIRIT HALLOWEEN and SCARF WORLD

Peoria, Ill. — Shoppes at Grand Prairie announces two new stores, Spirit Halloween and Scarf World & Things, with plans to open soon. Spirit Halloween will be located on the south end of the shopping center in suite 100 and plans a September opening. Scarf World & Things will open November 1st at the north end of the center, next to the Rug Rack and across from Dick’s Sporting Goods.

Common Place to Celebrate Literacy with Walk and month long activities

Peoria, Illinois…In honor of International Literacy Day, Common Place Family Learning Center will host its 28th Annual Walk for Literacy on Saturday, September 27, 2014, at Common Place, 514 S. Shelley Street., and a month long celebration of literacy.

Walk registration begins at 8:00 a.m. and the walk starts at 8:30 a.m. Cost for individual is $25.00 per person; $40.00 for family of three or more; youth groups up to nine participants $35.00, and $50 for group of 10 or more; and, $20.00 for teams, plus $10.00 per team member.  Online registration is available at: www.commonplacepeoria.org/events.

The month long celebration of literacy includes a story writing contest for children grades K – 12, with recognitions being held at the Walk for Literacy.

Festivities following the walk include: a Walk and Learn, including a visit from Professor Dumbledore, the Bookmobile, and local firemen and police; a continental breakfast; and many prizes for individuals, families, groups and teams.

Common Place Family Learning Center is a social service organization focusing on literacy, and is located on Peoria’s South Side.  Common Place offers after-school tutoring and enrichment activities for children grades K – 12, summer tutoring for grades K – 12, summer youth programs for children ages 8 – 15 years, adult one-on-one tutoring and small reading and math group classes, and GED study.
