Traffic Alert Re: Country Life Music Festival

Peoria County – The Peoria County Sheriff’s Office and Peoria Police Department would like to make the public aware of one of the traffic control measures that will be implemented to mitigate traffic congestion during the Country Life Music Festival at Ravina On The Lakes from July 18 – 20. This information is especially important to drivers planning to pick up someone at Ravina after the concert, such as parents that may be picking up children. Around 11:00 p.m. each night of the festival – Friday, July 18; Saturday, July 19; and Sunday, July 20 – vehicle access to Ravina On The Lakes will not be granted while concert traffic is exiting the venue. Orange Prairie Road – near its intersection with Charter Oak Road – and Charter Oak Road may both be closed to inbound traffic at the conclusion of the concert until pedestrian and outbound traffic has cleared. Orange Prairie Road will be open at its intersection with, and north of, Timberedge Drive.

Drivers intending to drop off and pick up concert-goers at Ravina On The Lakes this weekend are encouraged to find an alternate location at least for pick up, due to this traffic control measure. Free shuttle service to and from Ravina will be available from 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 a.m. each day at the Country Inn & Suites and Wingate hotel, both located near the Shoppes at Grand Prairie. Identifying an alternate pick up location is necessary if arrangements are made to pick up the concert-goer(s) immediately following the last musical performance of the night, expected to be around 11:00 p.m., because Charter Oak Road will only remain open to through traffic until the conclusion of the final performance, when exiting traffic volume is expected to increase significantly.

International Student Interest Up 95%

Bradley University is experiencing a major increase in international students interested in attending Graduate School on the Hilltop.

To date, Bradley has seen a 95% increase in international graduate school applications over last year. This is a growing trend for Bradley.  In Fall ’12, Bradley received 303 international applications, in Fall ’13, 408 were received and, so far, 794 international applications have been received for Fall ’14.

Graduate school admits for international students also is up 85% thus far over last fall.

Most of the international applicants are from India.  Dr. Jeff Bakken, Dean of the Graduate School, says this growth isn’t by chance.

“In September 2013 I spent two weeks in India attending educational fairs in various regions and marketing Bradley with Steven Dolins, Department Chair from Computer Science & Information Systems.  We had seen some success in recruitment from one particular region of India so we wanted to build upon that.  It worked.  We plan to go back this fall and do it again.”

At a time when many graduate schools are struggling to maintain enrollment, this is great news for Bradley and the Greater Peoria region.  The international interest in Bradley raises awareness of the region and increases opportunity for cultural experiences.  It’s also an economic boost for the region in a variety of ways.

Bakken says Bradley has made some other changes to attract the international market including offering an online application system making it easier for students to apply and see where their application is in the process.  He says Bradley also has enhanced its communications strategy.

“Many of these students are coming to the United States without knowing anyone, so we have created networking and social media groups where admitted international students can connect with each other prior to arriving on campus. We are also offering group travel options, assistance finding off-campus housing, more intense orientations, and cultural trips while they are here.”  All of this, according to Bakken, helps international students get acclimated to a new home and start their graduate school experience on the right foot.

To speak with Dr. Bakken about international student interest in Bradley’s graduate programs, contact the Office of Public Relations at 309-677-2242 or 309-677-3260.

(PEORIA – July 15, 2014) – For the third year in a row, OSF Healthcare System has been recognized as one of the nation’s MOST WIRED, according to the results of the 2014 Most Wired Survey conducted by Hospitals & Health Networks. The nation’s Most Wired hospitals are leveraging the adoption and use of health information technology (IT) to improve performance in a number of areas, according to Health Care’s Most Wired 2014 Survey.  For instance, 67 percent of Most Wired hospitals share critical patient information electronically with specialists and other care providers. Most Wired hospitals, those that meet a set of rigorous criteria across four operational categories, have made tremendous gains by using IT to reduce the likelihood of medical errors. Among Most Wired hospitals, 81 percent of medications are matched to the patient, nurse and order via bar code technology at the bedside.

According to James Mormann, Senior VP, CIO for OSF Healthcare System, “Being included for the third year in a row as one of the nation’s Most Wired health care systems recognizes our steadfast commitment we have to supporting our Community of Caregivers through information technology. As our Ministry continues to focus on how we can provide the right care at the right time with the greatest care and love to all those we serve, IT solutions help us be more connected with each other and more importantly with our patients.”

  • Among some of the key findings related to improving quality and patient safety:
  •  Nurses and physicians share best practices for patient safety and use checklists at more than 90 percent of Most Wired organizations.
  • To help consumers make better decisions about their health care, standard measures of individual hospital quality performance are reported and publicly available. Nearly half of Most Wired organizations share this information on their websites and 86 percent provide quality scores to clinical leaders on a regular basis as part of their performance improvement initiatives.

Health Care’s Most Wired Survey, conducted between Jan. 15 and March 15, asked hospitals and health systems nationwide to answer questions regarding their IT initiatives. Respondents completed 680 surveys, representing 1,900 hospitals, or more than 30 percent of all U.S. hospitals.
