Carsie Blanton

A folksinger/activist in the tradition of Woody Guthrie, a songwriter with a penchant for infectious melodies and lyrical wit, and a performer with vaudeville flair and a punk rock spirit, Carsie Blanton will headline a May 19 show at the Contemporary Art Center.

The performance, a fundraiser for Peoria’s nonprofit LULA organization, also will feature special guest Chicago Farmer.

Blanton, 40, has performed and recorded for decades and regularly sells out shows in North America and Europe.

Organizers said Blanton chose LULA as the recipient of the show, and 100% of ticket proceeds will go to the group, which helps people without adequate shelter, food or medical care. Initially named for founders Kshe Bernard and Jessica McGhee’s nicknames (“Lulu and Lola”), it now stands for “Love U Like Always.” Its website is https://lulapeoria.com/ and its Facebook page is https://www.facebook.com/LULANFP/
