The Peoria Heights Public Library’s book club for adults September & October meetings and book titles

The group meets in the library’s Local History Room on the second Saturday of each month at 10:00 a.m. On September 10, the group will discuss Isaac’s Storm: A Man, A Time, and the Deadliest Hurricane in History by Erik Larson. The October 8 book will be Disobedience by Jane Hamilton. Discussion questions for each title are available at the library. Staff will assist participants in obtaining copies of the books.

There is no charge to belong to this group, and new members are welcomed to join.  For more information, call 682-5578.

The Peoria Heights Public Library will offer several programs for children during September and October

Toddler Time for children ages 18 months-3 years old will be held on Tuesdays at 10:00 a.m. starting September 13. The sessions will last 25-30 minutes.  A parent or guardian must accompany the child.

Story Hour is for children ages 3-5 and will be held on Wednesdays at 10:00 a.m. beginning September 14. The session will last 45-60 minutes. A parent or guardian must remain in the library during the program but does not need to be in the storytelling area.

A young artists’ class will be provided each Wednesday in September from 3:30 – 4:30 p.m.  These basic drawing sessions are for children ages 9 years old and up. Pre-registration is required, and the class is limited to six students. There is no charge to participate.

Basic drawing, part 2 will be offered on each Wednesday in October at 3:30 – 4:30 p.m. A child must have been enrolled in the first basic drawing class to be able to attend the second.  Again pre-registration is required, and there is no charge.

The Peoria County Humane Society will bring specially trained dogs for PAWS to the library at 1:30 p.m. on both September 21 and October 26. Children will be given the opportunity to read to these dogs for periods of 20 minutes. This popular program enables children to practice their reading skills without any interruption and without criticism. Preregistration is required.
