PDC to Build Compressed Natural Gas Commercial Fueling Station in Peoria

Company partners with Clean Energy Fuels Corp. to bring cleaner-burning fuel alternative to our community

Peoria Disposal Company (PDC), the city of Peoria’s environmental services contractor for residential trash, yard waste and recycling collection, is teaming with Clean Energy Fuels Corp. to build a compressed natural gas (CNG) commercial fueling station in Peoria.

The facility will be located at PDC Services, Inc., 1113 N. Swords Ave., Peoria. It will be open to Peoria commercial businesses and serve as the headquarters for PDC’S 12 new CNG-powered trucks.

The benefits of compressed natural gas are far reaching:

  • CNG truck engines provide a more than 20 percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, while operating at costs similar to those of diesel truck engines
  • 97 percent of our nation’s natural gas supply is produced in North America, whereas we import 75 percent of our crude and refined fuel products today.

“Clean Energy is pleased to join with PDC in bringing the many benefits of natural gas fuel to the Peoria community,” said Ray Burke, Vice President of Clean Energy. “With this initiative, Peoria becomes a leader in the region for cleaner air and a healthier environment.”

PDC will also work with Autocar to make the transition to natural gas seamless. “Peoria Disposal has long been setting high standards in the refuse industry,” said Tom Vatter, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Autocar. “We are excited to add such a respected company to the rapidly growing list of Autocar Xpeditor owners.”

PDC expects to take delivery of the CNG-powered garbage trucks in late October. The trucks are made by McNeilus Truck and Manufacturing Co., a long-standing PDC vendor. Minnesota-based McNeilus is the leading producer of CNG-powered garbage trucks and is proud to be part of PDC’s transition to a domestically produced fuel.

“McNeilus has a great partner in PDC, and we’re very excited to know that our clean-burning trucks will be hitting the streets of Peoria,” said McNeilus President Frank Nerenhausen. “It’s a win-win-win for the people of Peoria, PDC and McNeilus.”
