Methodist Offers April “Coffee with the Doctors”
If you’re among the growing number of people who has difficulty hearing, Methodist Medical Center is offering a free opportunity to learn the causes and treatments. In another of its regular “Coffee with the Doctors,” Methodist Medical Group physician, Dr. Christopher von Hake will discuss the various causes for hearing loss and the treatment options that can help improve quality of life. Dr. von Hake of Methodist Medical Group Ear, Nose and Throat is an experience ear, nose and throat specialist.
This special community program is scheduled for Wednesday, April 18th from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. in the Methodist at North Allen Road Conference Center, 2338 W. SUD Parkway at the intersection of Route 6 and Allen Road.
Coffee with the Doctors is a free program for the community but seating is limited. To reserve a seat call 636-9500. Deadline for reservations is April 13.

Luthy Botanical Garden to Host Earth Day in the Garden April 22
The Peoria Park District’s Luthy Botanical Garden will host Earth Day on Sunday, April 22, from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m.
Join Barry Cloyd and Brian Fox Ellis of Prairie Folklore theatre for eco-themed music and interactive events/storytelling for children and adults. They will entertain as well as educate about the rich layers of history found in the Midwestern prairie, spinning stories and songs and creating great musical theatre.

Garden Design Series Classes @ Luthy Botanical Garden
The Peoria Park District’s Luthy Botanical Garden will present its latest Garden Design Series of classes on two Saturdays this spring: April 7 and April 14. This year, the Garden will examine new concepts, ideas and inspirations in garden design and landscape architecture, including innovative gardens, new ideas in container gardening and fabulous new plants.

Ivy Club Offers One-Time Free Trial Membership

THE SUN FOUNDATION’S 19th ANNUAL CLEAN WATER CELEBRATION
This year’s Clean Water Celebration will kick off on the Peoria riverfront on Sunday, April 22. Opening ceremonies begins at 4:00 p.m. at the Gateway Building with a Native American Blessing of the River and a Parade of Waters.White Beaver Hayna Sine, HoHo Chunk leader, will conduct the opening blessing ceremony.
The Clean Water Celebration will continue on Monday, April 23 from 8:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at the Civic Center with an emphasis on educating local students, grades 4 -12. This free event is for registered classes & offers a keynote presentation by In the Heart of the Beast, Puppet &Mask Theater of Minneapolis, MN.
Participants will also enjoy presentations on green initiatives, recycling and conservation, storytelling and exhibits.

Money Smart Week @ Peoria Public Library Has Financial Literacy Programs for All Ages
Peoria Public Library will host Money Smart Week from April 21 through 28 with a variety of free financial programs for all ages, including a Berenstain Bears storytime and book giveaway.
Smart Money Week @ Your Library is sponsored by the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago and Country Financial with the hope of improving financial literacy in the community through a variety of programs.
The week kicks off with “Money Smart Kids Read” on Saturday, April 21 at 10:00 a.m. when celebrity readers will read The Berenstain Bears Dollars & Sense at Peoria Public Library Main Library, North Branch, Lincoln Branch and McClure Branch. Children ages three and up will each receive a free copy of the book as well as age-appropriate take-home items.
A program on “Identity Theft, Investment Scams and Financial Fraud” will be presented on Monday, April 23 at 10:30 a.m. at North Branch in the McKenzie Room. As scammers become more sophisticated, it is vital to have the latest information on how to protect your identity and your money. The program will be presented by the office of Judy Barr Topinka, Illinois State Comptroller.
Also on Monday, April 23 the office of Judy Barr Topinka will present a program on credit and debt management at 1:30 p.m. at Peoria Public Library Lincoln Branch. Consumers will learn how to comparison shop for credit cards, how to better understand credit card statements and how to review credit scores and history.
Those who wonder if credit counseling might be for them will find answers at Peoria Public Library Main Library on Wednesday, April 25 at 11:00 a.m. with “Credit Counseling” by the non-profit Novadebt. Novadebt is committed to assisting families and individuals in need by providing free financial education, community outreach and housing and credit counseling services; all with compassion and the utmost commitment to quality and integrity. Those attending will get an overview of the help available and learn how to seek assistance.

Common Place to hold spring Tutor Training Workshop Series
Please consider sharing your literacy skills with another English-speaking adult who wants to improve their reading, writing or math. The Adult Literacy Program staff at Common Place Family Learning Center will offer a Tutor Orientation and Training Workshop on Thursday, April 19 from 5:30 – 8:00 p.m., and on Saturdays, April 21 and April 28 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. (all sessions at Common Place).
