FORGET THE LAWN—WE’RE HUNTING FOR EGGS UNDERWATER!

Why hunt for eggs on the lawn when you can hunt them UNDERWATER at the AquaPlex? The Peoria Park District and the RiverPlex Recreation and Wellness Center will hold their annual Underwater Egg Hunt for children ages 3 to 8 on Saturday, April 7 at the AquaPlex. Kids will find eggs filled with money and receive a bag with candy. Cost for the event is $5 for members, $7 for non-members. There are two sessions: 9:00-9:45 am and 10:00-10:45 am. Participants MUST preregister at the RiverPlex or Glen Oak Pavilion.

For everyone’s safety, a parent or guardian must accompany children under five years of age into the pool-no exceptions.  For more information, call Sue Wheeler at 309-282-1531.

Luthy Botanical Garden to Host Earth Day in the Garden April 22

The Peoria Park District’s Luthy Botanical Garden will host Earth Day in the Garden on Sunday, April 22, from 2:00-4:00 p.m.

Join Barry Cloyd and Brian Fox Ellis of Prairie Folklore theatre for eco-themed music and interactive events/storytelling for children and adults. They will entertain as well as educate about the rich layers of history found in the Midwestern prairie, spinning stories and songs and creating great musical theatre.

Come enjoy some Earth Day recipes and help your child make a tasty Dirt Cup,

dessert cups filled with crushed cookies, chocolate pudding and gummy worms that creates the look of muddy earth — but are much more delicious!

Earth Day in the Garden will be held outdoors if weather permits…or in the Garden Conservatory in case of spring showers. Admission is $5 per person or $10 per family. For more information, contact Ann Kizer, events coordinator, at 681-3506.

ADULT CO-REC KICKBALL PEORIA PARK DISTRICT

The Peoria Park District will offer a Kickball League starting Sunday, April 29 at Peoria Stadium. Co-rec teams of 10-15 players (with at least three female players) will attempt to outrun their opponents with a little friendly and enjoyable competition.
Team Fees are $75 for resident teams and $80 for non-resident teams. Player Fee is $10 for residents and $15 for non-residents. Registration packets are available at Glen Oak Park Pavilion, Franciscan Recreation Complex, RiverPlex, or online at www.peoriaparks.org. Please note that online registration is not available; registration packets must be returned to the Glen Oak Park Pavilion.

Register Now for the First Heart of Illinois Senior Games Men’s Softball Tournament

Be the first to register for the inaugural Heart of Illinois Senior Games Men’s Softball Tournament, Saturday, May 19 and Sunday, May 20 at Peoria Stadium. This tournament, a new event in the annual Heart of Illinois Senior Games and Fine Arts Festival, will be held the weekend before the 2012 Games, which take place May 24 through May 28. The registration deadline for the softball tournament is May 4.

The tournament, played in the Round Robin format, will be limited to the first 12 paid teams. There will be two divisions: ages 50-59 and 60 plus. Each division will receive first and second place awards; gold, silver and bronze medals for the top three teams; an MVP award and 10 “All Tournament” awards. The entry fee is $250 per team. (All registered players can then participate in any social, athletic or fine arts event in the Heart of Illinois Senior Games and Fine Arts Festival at no additional cost.)
The entry form for the softball tournament is available at www.hoiSeniorGames.org and in HOI Senior Games Registration booklets, which can be picked up at Peoria Park District facilities, at Morton, Pekin and Fon du Lac Park Districts, and at many other local businesses.

Registration Now Open for the 2012 Heart of Illinois Senior Games and Fine Arts Festival

Registration for the 2012 Heart of Illinois Senior Games and Fine Arts Festival — Thursday, May 24 through Monday, May 28 — is now open. Registration booklets are available online at www.hoiSeniorGames.org, where you can also view a video that showcases the event. Registration booklets can also be picked up at Peoria Park District facilities and will soon be available at Morton, Pekin and Fon du Lac Park Districts as well as many other local businesses. The registration deadline is May 11.

The five-day festival for men and women age 50 and older will have nearly 100 events to choose from in several categories including athletic, “just for fun,” visual arts, literary arts and performing arts. The cost to participate in unlimited events is $30. Participation in Fine Arts Only events or “Just for Fun” events is just $15. There are also several social events that are FREE with a paid registration, including the Opening Reception, Peoria Chiefs Night, Riverboat Ride and much more. There is something for everyone, so make plans now to participate or volunteer!

Most of the events in the 2012 Senior Games will take place at the RiverPlex in Peoria or the Eastside Centre in East Peoria. Opening Scramble Golf Tournament

Join us for the first tournament of the season! Sign up now for the Peoria Park District’s Opening 2-Player Scramble held at Newman Golf Course on Saturday, April 7.
