The 12th annual Night Out Against Crime, hosted by the West Peoria Neighborhood Watch, the City of West Peoria, West Peoria Township and the Peoria County Sheriffs’ Department, will be held on Saturday, September 8th from 4:00 – 6:30 p.m. at the Franciscan Recreation Center. Events will include a bicycle rodeo, bicycle drawing, canine demonstration, Bearcat Armored Vehicle, fire fighting equipment, the Living Room Band, gate prizes, water balloon contest, hotdogs, sno-cones, and much more! You are invited to join in the Night Out Against Crime fun and help make the community safer! West Peoria Township will register bikes atNight Out Against Crime.

The West Peoria Fire Department’s annual Family Day will be Sunday September 16th, from noon – 3:00 p.m. at the fire house; it is for the whole family to learn more about fire safety and for kids take rides on a fire truck. New Chief, Terry Schadt, will be there for everyone to meet. He first joined the department in 1980. Stop by and learn more about the men and women who give so much time to keep our community safe and a good place to live. It also marks the first day for Hog Roast ticket sales. The Hog Roast will be October 21st and is the single largest fundraiser for the volunteer department each year.

The West Peoria Neighborhood Watch will meet on Wednesday, September 12th at 6:30 p.m. in City Hall. The guest speaker, Vicky Turner with the Peoria County EMA, (Emergency Management Agency) will discuss the Agency’s emergency programs and citizen preparedness. Deputy Vissering will give an up-date on any criminal activity in West Peoria.  Plan to attend and bring a friend.

The Residents’ Association will meet on Thursday, September 20th at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall. The West Peoria Beautiful Award will be presented to this year’s winner for the best improvement of an individual residential West Peoria property. Public is welcome.

The West Peoria Library will be closed until further notice because of relocating to a different location. Help will be need with boxing and moving the library items. Anyone interested should contactwestpeorialibrary@yahoo.com and leave contact information so that you can be contacted or call Emily Huff at 453-8139. You can start saving items for the food pantry that is operated by the library and then deliver once the new location is occupied. Non-perishable items (cereal, noodles, rice, canned vegetables) are needed for people in need this fall.

Election for the following West Peoria officials will take place April 9th, 2013; one alderman from each ward; Ward 1, Ward 2, Ward 3, and Ward 4. Anyone interested in running for one of these positions should contact the City Clerk for a nominating packet.

The packets will be available for pickup at West Peoria City Hall from September 25th through December 17th 2012. If you have any questions, call West Peoria City Clerk Carole Stephens at West Peoria City Hall 674-1993.

The last day to register to vote for the November 6th, 2012 election is October 9th 2012.  Residents of Peoria County who are 18 or will be 18 at the time of the election can register with City Clerk at West Peoria City Hall: 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Registration is also available at the Peoria County Clerk’s Office at the Peoria County Courthouse, Monday thru Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Early election voting for the November 6th 2012 election will be held at West Peoria City Hall on the following dates: Friday October 26th 2012 from 8:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. and Friday November 2nd 2012 from 8:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m.

On November 6th 2012 West Peoria Polling places are: Ward 1 and Ward 2 at the City Garage, 1322 Hillside Avenue; Ward 3 and Ward 4 at the Franciscan Recreation Center, 908 N. Sterling Avenue.

All residents are required to sign up for garbage service with Waste Management (1-800-796-9696). You will be charged for this service. Landscape waste pick up is included.  Residents are responsible for maintaining a clean area from the middle of the street to the middle of the alley. This includes mowing the alley line and behind fences or garages and picking up any trash or debris in the alley. Grass and weeds must be kept mowed and are in violation if they grow over 9″ high. The area between the curb and sidewalk must be mowed as well. Pay attention and pull out any weeds that you see growing along your curbs. They have really flourished in this summer weather. Please do not blow grass clippings into the street as it causes the storm sewers to back up. This violates City Code 3-8-1 (Right Of Way Obstructions).

No Open Burning of trash or landscape waste is permitted. To report a violation of this policy, please call: Peoria County Sheriff at: 672-6011. All vehicles without an up-to-date license sticker are considered inoperable and are in violation of City Code. Any vehicle without said sticker must be stored in a garage. A vehicle parked on the grass is in violation of City Code.

Permits are required for new or replacement fences, new or replacement sidewalks or driveways or patios, new or replacement decks & porches, sheds, garages, additions, structure demolition, swimming pools & home occupation. Most permits are $15.00 to $25.00. Please call City Hall to determine if a permit is needed.
