Youth Basketball Skills Camp – The Peoria Park District’s Youth Basketball Skills Camp for children ages 5 years through grade 4 runs on Tuesday & Thursday evenings, October 1-24, at Franciscan Rec Complex. Cost is $29/residents, $34/non-residents.Boys and girls will learn the basics and improve their skills in this instructional program. They will learn dribbling, passing, shooting, rebounding, and defense, all while maintaining an emphasis on sportsmanship, teamwork, and fun. Open Volleyball at Franciscan Rec Complex – Starting October 3, the Peoria Park District’s Franciscan Recreation Complex (FRC) open gym volleyball schedule is Monday evenings from 7:30-10:00 p.m. and Thursday evenings from 8:00 – 10:00 p.m. Cost is $3 per visit or $20/10-visit punch card. Basic Beading Class – The Peoria Park District’s Basic Beading class on Sat., October 5 from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. at Free to Bead teaches participants 12+ how to create beautiful strung bracelets, necklaces, and earrings. HAPPY FEET SOCCER AT THE RIVERPLEX – Sign up today for Peoria Park District Happy Feet Soccer for ages 2-3 at the RiverPlex. Sessions start October 7 and 11 and run for five weeks. Registration fee is $36/residents, $41/non-residents. This soccer program is a perfect starting point for developing skills as it is non-competitive and uses fun techniques to train advanced motor skills, dynamic dribbling, shooting skills and fitness. Acupuncture Class at KP Chiropractic – The Peoria Park District’s Intro to Acupuncture class takes place Thursday, October 10 at 6 p.m. at KP Chiropractic. This class for ages 18+ will have acupuncture demonstrations and introduce participants to the many ways this ancient form of healing can help them. Cost: $16/residents, $23/non-residents. Community Children’s Theatre to Present “Tarzan” Auditions October 18-19 – Auditions for Disney’s “Tarzan,” presented by the Peoria Park District’s Community Children’s Theatre, will be held Friday, October 18 at 6:00 p.m. and Saturday, October 19 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s Episcopal Cathedral, 3601 N. North Street in Peoria. The production, for ages 8 through 18, will be directed by Peggy Breaux Hupp. Prepare a song to sing (not from this show), bring sheet music for the accompanist, and wear comfortable clothing for dance movement. Performance dates for “Tarzan” are December 12-15. Call 681-2861.

Adult Co-Rec Indoor Soccer League – The Peoria Park District’s Adult Co-Rec Indoor Soccer League for ages 18+ will be held on Fridays starting November 1 at the RiverPlex. The six game season is 6v6 style play, with two females on the floor at all times. Registration deadline is October 25. Fees are $250 for resident teams and $275 for non-resident teams. PEORIA ZOO HOLDS POPULAR ZOOBREW & WINE TOO EVENT – Peoria Zoological Society will host annual Peoria Zoo fundraiser, Zoobrew and Wine Too on Thursday, October 24, from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. at the Zambezi River Lodge. Guests will have the opportunity to sample a selection of beer and wine during this enchanting fall evening at Peoria Zoo. Tickets include unlimited drink tastings, light appetizers, and live music all while exploring the Africa! exhibit after hours. Tickets are $50 per person or $40 per person before October 18. Tickets may be purchased at the Safari Gift Shop at Peoria Zoo, online at www.peoriazoo.org or by calling (309) 681-3500. Attendees must be ages 21 and over. Peoria Zoological Society is currently raising funds for the Power of Play. This project will bring a day-long destination for learning through play to Glen Oak Park with the creation of the Peoria PlayHouse Children’s Museum and the expanded Peoria Zoo.
